ETS’s visit to Hong Kong and Macao

Mr. Alex Yu, Associate Director of ETS Global Division, visited Hong Kong and Macao this week to support various English Language assessment initiatives in our region. Mr. Yu’s visit illustrates ETS’s commitment to provide fair, valid and reliable assessments worldwide.

Mr. Yu, together with Smart Education (ETS’s local representative), visited Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES) and Macao Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) to discuss how TOEFL® helps Ministries of Education in other countries, institutions and students assess their English proficiency and prepare students for success. Mr. Yu also expressed ETS’s support in helping DSEJ to implement the Language Assessment Pilot Scheme for senior secondary school students with the TOEFL® program.

Mr. Yu and Smart Education also visited the Labour Affairs Bureau (“DSAL”) of Macao and shared ETS’s experience on how TOEIC® and TOEIC® Bridge programs help governments worldwide develop policies on workforce English proficiency. Mr. Yu also explained how various government-sponsored English language learning programs use the TOEIC® tests to improve the quality of their nation’s workforce. ETS, Smart Education will work closely with School of Continuing Studies of City University of Macau to design and develop English-language learning programs with TOEIC® and TOEIC® Bridge for the workforce in Macao.
