The 2012 TOEIC® Asia Pacific Regional Conference was held on June 11 & 12 in Shanghai, China. Regional representatives from over 15 countries participated in the conference , including China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, etc. Smart Education, the official representative in Hong Kong & Macau, was invited to the conference and reported the rapid growth of TOEIC® in our region.
The theme of this year’s regional meeting was “Shared Knowledge. Global Reach”. The meeting started with opening remarks from Mr. Walter Wang, president of ATA, the ETS representative in China and the host of this event. Mr. David Hunt, Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, ETS Global Division gave a keynote speech on the strategic direction of TOEIC® in 2011 and 2012. A series of important topics were also discussed within the two days including: the growth of TOEIC® tests in Asia Pacific region, the impact from the UKBA acceptance of TOEIC, how to continuously improve the quality and quantity of TOEIC® tests and the development direction of TOEIC® tests in the future.
Since July 2011, Smart Education has become the Educational Testing Service’s (ETS) official representative of TOEIC® tests in Hong Kong and Macau. TOEIC® is the Test of English for International Communication, and the global standard for workplace English-language assessment. TOEIC® is being used by over 10,000 organizations in 120 countries as their recruitment, training and promoting requirement. Furthermore, in April 2011, the U.K. Border Agency announced that persons from around the world wishing to work, study, or settle in the United Kingdom may use the TOEIC® tests to demonstrate their English proficiency for all visas under the United Kingdom’s points-based system. More than 6 million TOEIC® tests were administered in 2010.
