Smart Education, the official representative of the JPT (Japanese Proficiency Test) in Hong Kong and Macau, is proud to announce a landmark update for students and professionals planning to pursue higher education in Japan.
The Immigration Services Agency (ISA) of the Ministry of Justice, Japan, has officially updated its list of recognized Japanese language proficiency qualifications. The JPT is now formally listed under the criteria for "Japanese language ability for admission to higher education institutions." Furthermore, the ISA has explicitly set a score of 525 points or higher as the benchmark for eligibility.

Official Recognition: JPT for Student Visas
According to the latest guidelines published on the Ministry of Justice website, the JPT is now a primary credential for assessing the language proficiency of international students.
For Hong Kong students aiming to enroll in Japanese universities, graduate schools, junior colleges, or vocational colleges (Senshu Gakko), this means that a JPT score of 525+ carries the same legal weight as a JLPT N2 certificate for visa application purposes.
Why the JPT is a Game-Changer for Hong Kong Students:
