Announcement of the Results of the 17th English Radio Drama Competition
Organised by the Smart Education Charitable Foundation and sponsored by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR), the 17th English Radio Drama Competition were successfully held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Tsang Chan Sik Yue Auditorium, Hong Kong Baptist University.
This year's competition featured five thought-provoking themes: “Junzi,” “The Courage to Take Responsibility,” “A Day Without Social Media,” “Green Consumption,” and “Embracing Yourself.” Centered around personal growth, social responsibility, and self-reflection in daily life, the themes encouraged students to explore their values, relationships, and connection with the environment through the creative process, gaining deeper insights into the challenges and complexities of contemporary life.
We are honoured to have received the generous support of Hong Kong Baptist University, which made it possible to host the competition at the Tsang Chan Sik Yue Auditorium. We are also deeply grateful to all the principals, teachers, students, and parents whose enthusiastic participation and unwavering support have kept the competition thriving.
This year, eleven teams advanced to the Grand Finals. Each team presented a uniquely creative and emotionally compelling radio drama performance, all vying for top honours. After a rigorous judging process, the panel of adjudicators highly praised the students’ outstanding performances. The finalists impressed not only with their imaginative storytelling but also with their strong sense of teamwork, filling the auditorium with surprises, passion, and inspiration.
The judges unanimously gave high praise to the finalists’ overall performance. With over 2000 script submissions received this year, the standard of work was exceptionally high. It is truly commendable for the winning students to stand out among such a large number of outstanding entries — a remarkable achievement that they should be proud of.
Now in its 17th year, the English Radio Drama Competition has continued to inspire and empower students through language and creativity. Over the years, we have witnessed generations of students grow and transform through this platform, expressing infinite imagination and potential through voice and words.
We would like to take this meaningful occasion to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the schools, organisations, principals, teachers, students, and parents who have supported us throughout the years. It is with your continued support that this competition has continued to flourish, benefiting more and more students each year.
For the past seventeen years, we have remained true to our mission — to provide a platform for students to showcase their creativity and unlock their potential. We believe that the process of radio drama creation is not only a form of language learning, but also a holistic growth experience that nurtures leadership, initiative, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and confidence.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) for sponsoring the English Radio Drama Competition for seven consecutive years. This consistent support has been instrumental in inspiring students to explore their creativity and refine their English language skills through this meaningful competition. We also extend our sincere thanks to all sponsors and supporting organizations, including(in no particular order) TOEFL Primary, TOEFL Junior, TOEFL ITP, TOEIC, KEA Learning International Limited, Lead Education, Maxi Culture, Zhuangzi Culture Research Foundation Limited, I-licensing, Hoi Tin Tong and Crayola for their generosity and dedication, which have played a vital role in ensuring the continued success of this competition.
